One of the floating Uros Islands, in Lake Titicaca, Peru. The Uros Islands are built by their inhabitants out of reeds. An amazing place to visit, and, testament to the fact that humans can survive almost anywhere - even on man-made reed islands, on a lake, 4000 metres up in the Andes.
This was actually one of the more touristy islands, dubbed a "Floating Souvenir Stall" by backpackers, but was nonetheless fascinating. This article by Miranda France about the islanders is well worth reading.
