En-route to Þórsmörk

Our next destination was Þórsmörk (which means Thor's Woods, and is pronounced "Thorsmerk"), in the Icelandic interior. Getting there is somewhat arduous, and involves travelling off-road in a ruggedized 4-WD bus, and fording many streams and rivers. Furthermore, as with most of the interior, it is only open during the short Summer season.

En route, we stopped at the Gígjökull glacier tongue, where the enormous Eyjafjallajökull glacier flows into a lagoon, which empties into one of the many rivers flowing towards the sea.

Eventually, we forded the last river, and arrived at Þórsmörk valley itself.
